1. Introduction
Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), also known as the fifth component, is a polypeptide chain composed of 583 amino acid residues, with 17 pairs of disulfide bonds in the peptide chain, a molecular weight of 66.43kD, and an isoelectric point of 4.7. 2. Main Functions
2.1. BSA contributes to the stability and activity of Taq enzyme in the PCR system, and can improve the efficiency of PCR.
2.2 Plasmodium culture
In vitro continuous culture of Plasmodium is an important tool for the study of Plasmodium, however, fresh human serum necessary for the maintenance of Plasmodium growth is difficult to obtain. The researchers found that the addition of lipid-rich bovine serum albumin to the Plasmodium falciparum medium can effectively replace human serum, which is suitable for continuous in vitro culture of Plasmodium in the intra-erythrocyte stage. Or add human serum and lipid-rich bovine serum albumin into the Plasmodium medium in a certain proportion, and the Plasmodium can reach a growth state similar to that of whole human serum culture, thus reducing the complete dependence on fresh human serum.
2.3 Liver cancer research
High concentrations of free fatty acids (FFAs) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) can alter cellular activity and cause lipotoxicity. The researchers found that lipid accumulation within cells reduces the lipotoxicity of free saturated fatty acids. Therefore, in order to develop effective treatments for diseases caused by complex and multiple influencing factors, and to search for genes that regulate multiple cellular processes, the researchers established a model in which human hepatoma cells (HepG2) were exposed to high concentrations of FFA and TNF-α in the physiological environment. The whole experiment was divided into control group, BSA group, palmitate group, oleate group and linoleate group, and then the accumulation of triglyceride (TG), toxicity and gene response in cells added with different FFA were detected.
